Zamalek's plants and gardens are the subject of a D-CAF photo show
Italian artist Jacopo Valentini's photography and installation project "On Zamalek's Nocturnal Vegetation" opens at Soba Art Hub on 18 October and runs until 25 October as part of D-CAF.
"On Zamalek's Nocturnal Vegetation", a photography and installation project by the visual artist and researcher Jacopo Valentini, opens at Soba Art Hub on Sunday 18 October at 6pm. It is part of this year's Downtown Contemporary Arts Festival (D-CAF) and stays on until Sunday 25 October.
Valentini looks at Zamalek through its plants, trees and gardens, treating them as traces of how the island district has been shaped by people, history and change. The work draws on archives, historical sources, literature, architecture and his own observation. It is funded by the European Union in Egypt with EUNIC Egypt and the Italian Cultural Institute in Cairo, and produced by Wasla for Arts.
The show is open from 6pm to 10pm on weekdays and from 2pm to 10pm at weekends. D-CAF's page does not list an entry fee or a street address for Soba Art Hub, so check d-caf.org or the festival's Instagram, @dcafegypt, before you go, or call the festival on +20 108 036 5530.
