Nermine El Ansari's sound installation Natural Scenes opens at Mashrabia
The D-CAF visual arts show of sound, sculpture and drawing opens on 11 October at Mashrabia Gallery in Downtown and runs until 5 November.
Natural Scenes, a show by Egyptian artist Nermine El Ansari, opens on Sunday 11 October at the Mashrabia Gallery of Contemporary Art in Downtown Cairo as part of D-CAF, the Downtown Contemporary Arts Festival. It is curated by Stefania Angarano and runs until 5 November.
The show is an immersive sound installation with sculpture and drawing. It asks how much of nature living things can keep on a planet run by modern technology. Working, as the festival puts it, like an apprentice architect, El Ansari uses scattered miniature red bricks to rebuild forms that once existed, creating a world in which time seems to have stopped.
The artist will talk about the work at the gallery on Monday 26 October at 7 pm, also listed in the D-CAF programme.
The festival has not published entry prices or gallery hours for this show; D-CAF's other exhibitions this month are free, so check d-caf.org before you go. The festival hub, at the Shourbagy Building on Mohamed Farid Street, can help with directions to the gallery.
