Downtown Cairo

The Downtown Contemporary Arts Festival, known as D-CAF, opens its 14th edition on Sunday 11 October. The first event is Natural Scenes, a new exhibition by Egyptian artist Nermine El-Ansari shown at Mashrabia Gallery and Villa Violette, which stays open until 5 November.

The programme then moves between dance, performance, exhibitions and talks in venues around Downtown, including Rawabet Art Space, the Falaki theatre, the French Institute in Mounira and the AUC Tahrir campus. Dance double bills are on at Rawabet on 13 and 14 October at 8pm, and a photography exhibition on the Ibn Tulun Mosque by Ayman Khoury opens at Beit Tulun on 25 October.

One of the headline items is Seven Deaths, a cinematic installation by Marina Abramovic, at the AUC Tahrir campus on 30 October. The listed programme ends with a panel discussion on 1 November.

The festival's website lists most ticketed performances at 200 pounds. Several events are free, some of them with advance registration. Full listings and booking are at d-caf.org.
