Japanese Film Week brings free screenings to the Opera House grounds from 17 October
The Japan Foundation's Japanese Film Week shows four films free of charge at the Artistic Creativity Centre in Cairo from 17 to 22 October, then moves to Alexandria on 23 and 24 October.
Japanese Film Week, organised by the Japan Foundation in Cairo, opens on Saturday 17 October at the Artistic Creativity Centre, inside the Cairo Opera House grounds in Zamalek. The Cairo screenings run until 22 October, and the programme then moves to the Jesuit Cultural Centre in Alexandria on 23 and 24 October.
Four films are on the Cairo programme: Hiroyasu Ishida's animated film Penguin Highway, Keiichi Hara's fantasy adventure The Wonderland, BISHU: The World's Kindest Clothes, a drama about a textile family, and Kanasando, a family drama set in the Ryukyu Islands. Alexandria gets a selection from the same line-up.
Every screening in both cities is free. Showtimes for each film have not been published yet, and no booking was announced, so plan to arrive early for a seat. The Artistic Creativity Centre is reached through the Opera House's main gates near the Qasr El Nil bridge, and Opera metro station is next to the grounds.
