The Grand Egyptian Museum in Giza is holding another GEM Family Weekend on Friday 16 and Saturday 17 October, built around Egypt's living heritage, according to Enterprise's events listing. The museum ran earlier editions of the weekend, most recently in April.

The programme includes pottery, jewellery and craft workshops inspired by ancient Egypt, El Aragoz hand-puppet shows, an interactive play, sing-alongs, baladi bread baking and Egyptian street food. It runs from 11am to 8pm on both days.

Tickets are sold through the event's own page on TicketsMarché (gemfamilyweekend.ticketsmarche.com). Prices and age rules had not been published there when we checked on 12 October, so look at the page before you set off, and book ahead rather than at the gate. The museum is on the Cairo to Alexandria desert road near the Giza Pyramids; a Family Weekend ticket is sold separately from a regular museum ticket on tickets.gem.eg.
