How to book Grand Egyptian Museum tickets online
A step-by-step guide to the museum's official booking site, tickets.gem.eg, with opening hours, free entry groups and the rules at the door.
The Grand Egyptian Museum sells its tickets online through its own platform, tickets.gem.eg, which moved to a .eg address this year after fake booking sites appeared. Tickets are for a set date and entry time, so booking ahead is the easiest way in. Here is how it works.
1. Choose your visit: on tickets.gem.eg pick Admission or Guided Tour, then the date, the tour language (Arabic or English) and an entry time.
2. Pick your category: the site offers Egyptian, Arab or Other Nationality, and Expatriate tickets. Prices appear at this step; the official page does not list them in advance, so check them there rather than on other websites.
3. Add extras if you want: you can add an experience to the visit or skip this step.
4. Enter contact details: full name, email, mobile number and nationality. The tickets and confirmation are sent to these.
5. Review and pay: check the details, add a promo code if you have one, and pay. The payment methods are shown at this step.
6. Check if you qualify for free entry: children under six, visitors with disabilities, ICOM members and Egyptian tour guides with groups enter free. Some public university students and staff, and some other groups, get free entry on certain days. Bring ID.
7. Plan your time: galleries open 9am to 6pm on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, and 9am to 9pm on Saturday and Wednesday. Last entry is one hour before the galleries close.
8. Know the rules: tickets are non-refundable and non-transferable and allow one entry. Bags larger than 40 by 40 cm go to the cloakroom, no outside food (small water bottles are allowed), and no flash, tripods, selfie sticks or drones.
The museum's chief executive has asked visitors to book only through the official link. Checked on 9 October 2026.
