Egypt moves clocks back one hour as winter time returns on 30 October
Summer time ends at midnight at the end of Thursday 29 October, and clocks across Egypt go back one hour for winter time from Friday 30 October.
Egypt returns to winter time at the end of this month. Under the 2023 law that brought back daylight saving, summer time runs from the last Friday of April to the end of the last Thursday of October, which this year is Thursday 29 October.
At midnight that night, clocks go back 60 minutes, so 12:00 midnight becomes 11:00 pm. The change falls on the weekend, giving people and offices time to adjust before the working week starts on Sunday.
Smartphones set to update the time automatically should change by themselves. Wall clocks, car clocks, ovens and other devices that do not connect to a network need to be set back by hand. On Android and iPhone, check that automatic date and time is switched on under Settings.
