Rain spell until Wednesday: thunderstorms in the south, Greater Cairo may get rain
Egypt's Meteorological Authority expects a rainy spell from Sunday evening to Wednesday, with thunderstorms in the south and possible rain over parts of Greater Cairo from Wednesday.
The Egyptian Meteorological Authority expects a low-pressure system to bring a wide rainy spell from Sunday evening through Wednesday 28 October, Al-Masry Al-Youm reported. Weather maps suggest the rain could cause flash floods in places.
From Sunday evening into Monday, rain is expected over the Red Sea region, South Sinai and Upper Egypt. The authority warned of thunderstorms with lightning and strong downdrafts over South Sinai, the Red Sea mountains, Aswan and southern Luxor, with intermittent rain over Halayeb and Shalateen.
From Wednesday the rain moves north to the Mediterranean coast, the Nile Delta, the Suez Canal cities and North Sinai, and may reach parts of Greater Cairo, northern Upper Egypt and the New Valley.
If you live in Cairo or Giza, keep an umbrella and a jacket in the car from Wednesday and allow extra time on the roads if it rains. Anyone driving to the Red Sea, Sinai or Aswan in the next three days should follow the authority's bulletins before setting off. No temperatures for Cairo were given with the warning.
