Egypt Forum ends with a target of EGP 15,000 minimum wage by 2030
Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly closed Egypt Forum 2026 with a list of targets, from a higher minimum wage to the end of evening school shifts. They are proposals, not decisions yet.
Egypt Forum 2026, a six-day meeting of officials, experts and citizens held from 19 to 24 October, ended on Saturday with recommendations read out by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly. The headline one: raise the minimum wage from EGP 8,000 to EGP 15,000 by the 2029/30 fiscal year, and lift average wages by at least 50% over the same period.
Schools feature too. The plan is to end evening shifts in primary schools by 2027, in preparatory schools by 2028 and in secondary schools by 2029, and to grow the Egyptian-Japanese schools from 103 to 500 within three years. Other targets include a national programme of about one million homes over four years, 200,000 IT and telecom jobs by 2030 and a timetable to remove railway level crossings by the end of 2030.
Nothing changes in pay slips or school timetables yet. These are recommendations, and each one still needs its own decision, budget and start date from the government; none was announced on Saturday. Families with children on an evening shift can ask their school directorate which year their school is due to switch, and anyone on the minimum wage should watch for the yearly wage announcements rather than expect the full rise at once.
