Egypt's train tickets can now be booked up to 15 days aheadEgypt

The National Authority for Egyptian Railways has widened advance booking: passengers can now reserve a seat up to 15 days before they travel, instead of the 24 hours allowed until now, CairoScene reported on 22 October.

The longer window covers air-conditioned trains, air-conditioned third-class trains and the services sold at dynamic prices. Bookings are made on the Egyptian National Railways website or its mobile app, which also shows timetables and issues electronic tickets.

Payment is by bank card or taken straight from a bank account. No change to fares was announced with the new booking window.

If you are heading to Alexandria, the coast or Upper Egypt for a long weekend, you can now secure your seat two weeks ahead from your phone rather than waiting until the day before. Open the railways' website or app, choose your train and pay by card. The 15-day window applies to the trains listed above; for other services, check the app before you plan.
