The Windsor Hotel on Alfi Bey Street in Downtown Cairo, closed for several years, is being restored. Brassbell Hospitality Group, the company behind the heritage conversions of Hotel Longchamps and Hannaux House, will run it with the Doss family, who have owned the hotel for decades.

The group describes the plan as restoration led by preservation: the facade will be kept, and the hotel's history and objects will be part of its new life. Heritage specialists Megawra are involved in the planning, and the rooftop, restaurants and access are being looked at.

Brassbell says the coming year will be spent preparing the building. No reopening date, budget or room count has been announced. The Windsor dates back to the late 19th century and served as a British officers' club during the First World War.
