Brown Nose opens its Roastery at District 5 on Saturday, with a bakery
Egyptian coffee brand Brown Nose opens The Roastery at District 5 in New Cairo on Saturday 31 October: roasting on show, a new food menu and a bakery that bakes every morning.
District 5, New Cairo
Brown Nose, one of Cairo's homegrown speciality coffee brands, is bringing its whole operation under one roof. The Roastery by Brown Nose opens at District 5 in New Cairo this Saturday, 31 October, SceneEats reported on 27 October.
The brand's story is a familiar Cairo one of growing step by step. Brown Nose started with its first roaster in Bahr El Azam in 2019, then took its coffee on the road with a coffee truck in Hacienda on the North Coast before spreading across the city. Today it also sells its own roasted beans online, including single-origin coffees from Ethiopia and Burundi listed on its website.
The new space is built around the roasting itself. Instead of hiding the roaster in a back room, The Roastery puts it at the centre, so visitors can watch the beans go from green to roasted to the cup in front of them. It is the first time the brand brings roasting, coffee bar and food together in one place.
Food is the other change. Brown Nose is launching a new menu of savoury dishes and sweets for the space, and The Roastery has its own bakery that bakes fresh every morning. The brand has not yet published the dishes or their prices.
For the opening day, DJ Ganoob will play, and the brand says it has a few surprises planned for that day only. District 5, the Marakez development off the Ring Road in New Cairo, has become one of the area's busier spots for cafés and bakeries over the past year.
The Roastery opens on Saturday 31 October at District 5, New Cairo. The exact unit, opening hours and menu prices have not been announced yet, so check Brown Nose's Instagram before you go, and go early in the day if you want the bakery at its freshest.
