Zawya's Youssef Chahine centenary season runs until 17 October
Zawya's retrospective "What Now, My Love?" marks 100 years since Youssef Chahine's birth, and its third part, "The Sparrow", shows eight of his films from 1971 to 1989 at Cinema Karim in Downtown.
Zawya, the arthouse cinema in Downtown Cairo, is in the closing stretch of "What Now, My Love?", a retrospective for the centenary of the director Youssef Chahine that began on 10 September and runs until 17 October. The programme is curated by Yasmine Zohdi and Ahmed Refaat.
Its third part takes its name from "The Sparrow" (1972) and brings together eight films Chahine made between 1971 and 1989, a period Zawya describes as his boldest in both form and content. Chahine films from those years listed on Zawya's site include "The Choice", "Return of the Prodigal Son", "Alexandria, Why?", "An Egyptian Story", "Adieu Bonaparte", "The Sixth Day" and "Alexandria Again and Forever".
Screenings are at Cinema Karim, 15 Emad El Din Street, Downtown. Zawya says the booking link for this part is coming soon, and screening times and ticket prices were not on its site when we checked, so follow zawyacinema.com or call +20 101 433 1779 before going. With the season ending on 17 October, this week is the last chance to see these films on a big screen in this programme.
