Cairo Film Festival to honour Asser Yassin, Medhat El Adl and Saeed Shimi
The 47th Cairo International Film Festival, running from 11 to 20 November, named its honourees at a press conference in Cairo on Sunday.
The Cairo International Film Festival announced the names it will honour at its 47th edition during a press conference on Sunday 11 October at the Sofitel Nile El Gezirah hotel, led by festival president Hussein Fahmy. The edition runs from 11 to 20 November and marks 50 years since the festival's first edition in 1976.
Cinematographer Saeed Shimi will receive the Golden Pyramid award for lifetime achievement. He has shot more than 100 feature films, including Atef El Tayeb's "The Bus Driver", and the festival credits him with taking the camera into Cairo's streets by hand and with being the first in the Arab world to film underwater. Screenwriter Medhat El Adl, who left medicine for writing and whose films include "Hammam in Amsterdam" and "Saeedi fil Gamaa El Amrekeya", will also receive a Golden Pyramid for lifetime achievement.
Actor Asser Yassin will receive the Faten Hamama Award for Excellence, the honour that last year went to Khaled El Nabawy. The festival also unveiled the poster for this year's edition, built from archive and restored film images.
The full programme, ticket prices and booking dates for the November festival have not been announced yet.
