Sunday weather: morning fog, dust and a Cairo high of 30
The Meteorological Authority expects a warm day in Cairo on Sunday 11 October, with fog on the roads early, possible dust, and thunderstorms in Sinai and the south.
The Egyptian Meteorological Authority expects autumn weather on Sunday 11 October: warm to hot by day from the north coast to Greater Cairo, very hot in southern Upper Egypt, and cool at night and early morning. Cairo should reach 30 degrees, with a low of 20.
Fog is expected from 4 to 8 in the morning on some roads in the north, including Greater Cairo, northern Upper Egypt, the Canal cities and central Sinai, and it may be dense at times. Sand and dust may blow over parts of Greater Cairo, Sinai and the south. There is only a small chance, about 10%, of light rain reaching parts of Greater Cairo.
Further south the picture is different. Rain with thunder is likely in parts of southern Upper Egypt, and it may become heavy enough to cause flash floods at times in central and southern Sinai, around the Gulf of Aqaba and in parts of the Red Sea governorate. The authority warns that thunderclouds can bring strong gusts and lightning. Elsewhere, Alexandria expects 27 degrees, Sharm El Sheikh 33 and Aswan 39.
If you drive early on Sunday, leave extra time and keep your distance in the fog until about 8 am. People with breathing problems may want to limit time outdoors if the dust picks up. If you are heading to Sinai, the Gulf of Aqaba or the Red Sea coast, check the latest forecast before you set off and avoid valleys and flood paths during storms.
