Astronomers put Eid al-Fitr on 9 March 2027 and Eid al-Adha on 16 May
The National Research Institute of Astronomy's calculations give a 29-day Ramadan in 2027, with Eid al-Fitr on Tuesday 9 March and Eid al-Adha on Sunday 16 May.
Ramadan will last 29 days in 2027 and Eid al-Fitr will fall on Tuesday 9 March, according to the National Research Institute of Astronomy's guide for the Hijri year 1448, as reported by El Watan.
The institute calculates that the Shawwal crescent is born at 11:31 am Cairo time on Monday 8 March 2027, the day of sighting, which makes the following day the first of Shawwal.
For Eid al-Adha, the Dhu al-Hijjah crescent is born at 2:00 pm Cairo time on Thursday 6 May. That puts the first of Dhu al-Hijjah on Friday 7 May, the Day of Arafat on Saturday 15 May and the first day of Eid al-Adha on Sunday 16 May 2027.
These are astronomical calculations. In Egypt the start of each Hijri month is confirmed by Dar al-Ifta after the official sighting, and public holiday dates are set by the Cabinet.
