How to see Eternal Sun at the Grand Egyptian Museum: prices and rules
Eternal Sun, the Grand Egyptian Museum's 35-minute light and music show, starts on 1 November. Tickets are EGP 480 for Egyptian adults and EGP 1,500 for visitors of other nationalities, sold only on the museum's own ticket site.
The Grand Egyptian Museum turns one on 1 November, and the same day it starts Eternal Sun, a 35-minute show of projection mapping, moving light and music inside the Grand Hall, told in Arabic and English and covering 5,000 years of Egyptian history. It runs after the galleries close, for a limited time. Prices and rules are now out, so here is what to know before you book.
Book on the museum's own site
tickets are sold through the Grand Egyptian Museum's official ticket site, tickets.gem.eg, under the Immersive Experience step. The museum says it is not responsible for tickets bought anywhere else. When we looked, the show was marked sold out, so check back for new sessions rather than buying from a reseller.
Know the prices
Egyptian adults pay EGP 480 and Egyptian children aged 6 to 12 pay EGP 240, both with valid ID, CairoScene reported. Visitors of other nationalities pay EGP 1,500 for adults and EGP 750 for children aged 6 to 12.
It does not include the galleries
an Eternal Sun ticket covers the show only. To see the collection the same day you need a museum admission ticket as well, and admission prices go up on 1 November (EGP 220 for Egyptian adults, EGP 1,830 for Arab and foreign adults).
Pair it with a visit
if you add the show to a museum admission ticket, you can leave the building after your visit and come back for your session. A ticket for the show alone allows one entry only.
Check the ages
children under 6 are not allowed in, and anyone under 15 must come with an adult.
Read the health warning
the show uses lasers, flashing and moving lights and loud music, and the museum says it is not suitable for people with epilepsy or sensitivity to flashing light.
Phones yes, flash no
photos and videos on your phone are allowed. Flash, tripods, selfie sticks, drones and live streaming are not.
Plan the evening
the complex stays open until 10pm on Wednesdays and Saturdays (galleries until 9pm) and until 7pm on other days (galleries until 6pm), with last entry an hour before the galleries close. Dining packages, a set menu or an open buffet before or after the show, can be added when you book.
No refunds
tickets are valid only for the date and time you choose and cannot be refunded or passed to someone else, and you need the QR code on your phone at the door. Prices can change, so check the total before you pay.
