EgyptAir now flies Cairo to Birmingham direct, four times a week
Birmingham is EgyptAir's third UK city after London and Manchester, with flights on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays on the new Boeing 737 MAX 8.
EgyptAir now flies direct between Cairo and Birmingham, its third city in the UK after London and Manchester. The first flight left Birmingham on Sunday 25 October, and the route runs four times a week, on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays.
The airline flies the route with its Boeing 737 MAX 8. EgyptAir received its first 737 MAX in May, as part of a leasing agreement with SMBC Aviation Capital for 18 of the aircraft. Birmingham Airport describes the service as year-round, so it is not a winter-only addition.
The route grew out of an agreement EgyptAir and Birmingham Airport signed on the sidelines of the El Alamein International Airshow. EgyptAir Holding chairman Ahmed Adel said it is part of the company's push to grow its international network in response to passenger demand, while EgyptAir Airlines chairman Mohamed Elyan described Birmingham as an economic and industrial centre in the middle of England, adding that the route would serve business travellers, tourists and Egyptians in the Midlands visiting family and friends. The first flight was marked with celebrations on board and a reception at Birmingham Airport, Egyptian Streets reported.
It is Birmingham Airport's first direct link to Cairo; the airport already has flights to Hurghada and Sharm El Sheikh. For EgyptAir it is the latest in a run of new routes: Manchester was added after an announcement in June 2023, Zanzibar joined the African network in September, and direct Cairo to Stockholm flights are due in December.
For anyone in Cairo with family, study or work in the Midlands, the route removes the drive or train ride from London or Manchester at the end of a long trip. Flights go on four days a week only, so match your dates to Tuesday, Thursday, Friday or Sunday when you book on EgyptAir's website or app. The airline has not announced fares or flight times for the route, so compare prices on your dates before you buy. Travellers starting in Birmingham can also connect through Cairo International Airport to EgyptAir's network in Africa, the Middle East and the Far East.
