Car prices rise again in Egypt: 33 models from eight brands go up
Hyundai, Chery, Haval, BYD, Citroën, Cupra, Seat and Dayal raised prices on about 33 models this week, by between EGP 20,000 and EGP 100,000, several for the second time in two weeks.
Dealers raised the prices of about 33 passenger cars from eight brands in Egypt within 24 hours, Masrawy reported on 22 October. The increases run from about EGP 20,000 to EGP 100,000, and for several brands it is the second rise in less than two weeks.
Hyundai's Tucson went up by EGP 50,000 and now starts at EGP 1.85 million, while the Venue has risen by EGP 45,000 in two steps and starts at EGP 889,000. The electric Ioniq 9 rose by up to EGP 100,000 and now costs EGP 3 million to 3.6 million. BYD's Ti 7 hybrid saw the biggest BYD rise, EGP 75,000, and Cupra's Formentor VZ went up by EGP 81,000 to EGP 2.67 million. Chery's Tiggo 7 Pro rose by EGP 25,000 to EGP 1.115 million, and Haval's locally assembled Julian now starts at EGP 1.025 million.
Dealers point to the dollar, now above EGP 55, the cost of getting foreign currency and higher shipping costs linked to tensions in the region. The head of the car traders' association told Masrawy he expects more increases.
If you have a car on order or are about to buy, ask the dealer for the current official price list before you pay a deposit, since several brands have changed prices twice this month. Prices quoted by dealers can be higher than the official list.
