5 car launches and price changes in Egypt this October
Two new electric and hybrid arrivals, one new brand, a range-extender SUV on sale now and a price rise on a locally assembled SUV: what is changing for car buyers this month.
October is a busy month for anyone shopping for a new car in Egypt. Here are five launches and price moves announced by the local agents, with the dates and prices they have given so far. Where a price has not been announced, we say so.
1. Cupra Tavascan: Kayan Egypt, Cupra's local agent, launches the fully electric Tavascan SUV on Thursday 15 October. It is the first battery-only Cupra offered in Egypt. The local price, trims and showroom date are expected at the launch.
2. Jaecoo: The Chinese SUV brand is due to launch officially in Egypt on 26 October through Ezz Elarab Elsewedy Investments, which also sells Omoda. The first 150 Omoda and Jaecoo buyers get two years or 40,000 km of free servicing, whichever comes first. Models and prices have not been announced.
3. BAIC X55e: On sale now through Alkan Auto showrooms in one Topline trim at 1,225,000 pounds. It is a range-extended electric SUV: a 217 hp electric motor drives the wheels and a 1.5 litre petrol engine only charges the battery, so it fills up at a petrol station and does not need plugging in.
4. BAIC X7e: The larger X7e, 4,745 mm long with the same 217 hp system, was shown alongside the X55e as part of BAIC's new X-Line. Its Egyptian price and on-sale date have not been announced.
5. Hyundai Venue: GB Auto has raised the price of the locally assembled Venue less than a month after its September launch. The Blaze trim now costs 869,000 pounds, up 19,000, and the Redline 945,000 pounds, up 25,000. Confirm the current price with an authorised dealer before booking.
