Egypt's clocks go back one hour at midnight on Thursday 29 October
Summer time ends at the close of Thursday 29 October: at midnight the clock goes back to 11pm, and winter time starts on Friday 30 October.
Egypt returns to winter time at the end of Thursday 29 October. At midnight, clocks go back 60 minutes to 11pm, so Friday 30 October is the first day on winter time.
The date is set by Law 34 of 2023 on summer time, under which summer time runs from the last Friday of April to the last Thursday of October. Egypt Independent and Masrawy both reported the change this month.
Shop and café hours have already moved to their winter timetable, Egypt Independent said: restaurants and cafés open from 5am to midnight, shops and malls from 7am to 10pm (11pm on Thursdays, Fridays and public holidays), and workshops in residential areas from 8am to 6pm.
Phones and computers change by themselves. Wall clocks, car clocks, ovens and anything else set by hand need turning back one hour before you go to bed on Thursday night. If you have a flight, train or appointment early on Friday 30 October, check the time on your ticket against the new time.
