Thanaweya Amma and baccalaureate exams move to half multiple choice, half essay
From the 2026/2027 school year, the Education Ministry says both secondary certificates will be examined with 50% multiple-choice and 50% essay questions.
The Ministry of Education and Technical Education has set the format of next year's secondary school exams: from the 2026/2027 school year, half of each paper will be multiple-choice questions and half essay questions.
The rule covers the third year of the Thanaweya Amma and the second and third years of the new Egyptian Baccalaureate. Thanaweya Amma has a total of 320 marks, and a student's result comes from one sitting in a single year, the third year of secondary school.
Under the ministry's timetable, Baccalaureate second-year exams run from 12 to 22 June 2027 and the Thanaweya Amma exams from 26 June to 21 July 2027.
For students and parents, the change means preparing for written answers as well as bubble sheets from now on. Model papers in the new format have not been announced yet, so follow the ministry's own website and your school for them.
