Fustat, Masr El Qadima, Cairo

Tamer Ashour has been added to the second edition of the Fustat Festival, with a concert on Friday 27 November in Old Cairo. Tickets went on sale on Tickets Marche, with the show set to start at 9:30pm sharp.

The festival takes place in the open air at Fustat in Masr El Qadima, and this edition has been built around big Egyptian and Arab voices on Friday nights. This Friday, 30 October, Mohamed Fouad, Ehab Tawfik, Hesham Abbas and Hamid El Shaeri share one stage, and Lebanese singer Heba Tawaji follows on 13 November. Ashour's night comes two weeks later and is, so far, the last date the organiser, Waleed Mansour, has put on sale.

Ashour is one of the most booked romantic singers in Egypt, known for heartbreak ballads that fill arenas and wedding playlists alike. The organisers bill the night as an evening of his best-loved songs. He is no stranger to Fustat: last winter he shared a night at the Fustat Winter Festival with Amal Maher, Egypt Today reported at the time.

There are five ticket levels. Regular costs EGP 800, the Fan Pit standing area in front of the stage EGP 1,100 and the Front Line EGP 2,000. Two VIP sections, VIP L and VIP R, cost EGP 8,334 each. Doors open at 8pm and close at 9:30pm, when the concert begins, so latecomers may not be let in. Everyone aged 10 and over needs a full ticket, and children under 10 are not admitted. Cameras are not allowed, and you cannot bring your own food or drink; the venue has food stands, toilets, parking and security.

If you plan to go, book through Tickets Marche and aim to arrive by 8:30pm to park and get through the gates before the doors close. Fustat is in Old Cairo, near the Museum of Egyptian Civilization, and the ticket page has a map link to the entrance. Prices are the seller's at the time of writing, and the cheaper levels at this festival have tended to sell first.
