System Error, a play set in an airport interrogation room, at Rawabet on 4 and 5 November

A small new play gets two nights in Downtown Cairo this week. System Error, presented by Orient Productions, plays Rawabet Art Space on Wednesday 4 and Thursday 5 November, both nights at 7pm, according to its page on Tickets Marche.

The story takes place in the transit area of a European airport. A security warning about a possible attack goes off, and two women, Amira and Anna, end up locked in an interrogation room. Security officers hold and question them without telling them why. The two come from different worlds and are travelling for different reasons, and the play follows the distrust and uncertainty between them while they wait to find out what happens next. The organisers say the story is inspired by a real incident.

The production is described as multilingual and as developed collectively by the company, rather than written by a single author. The page does not name a director, a writer or the cast, and it does not say which languages are spoken on stage or how long the show runs.

Rawabet Art Space, on Hussein Basha Al Meamari in Marouf, is one of Downtown's best-known independent stages. It has hosted dance, theatre and live music this autumn, including D-CAF performances in October and the Shaboura live set on 7 November. Orient Productions also has a second play at the same venue next week, which shows how much of Downtown's small-stage theatre runs through rooms like this one.

Tickets cost EGP 150 for either night and are sold on Tickets Marche; there is a single price, with no seating categories listed. The venue lists toilets, security and food services, and its Arabic page also mentions parking. Doors and age limits are not stated, so check the ticket page before you go. The address is 5 Hussein Basha Al Meamari, Marouf, Qasr El Nil, and the show starts at 7pm sharp on both nights.
