14-inch MacBook Pro moves to M6 with up to 24 hours of battery

Apple's new 14-inch MacBook Pro has the M6 chip, a brighter display and what Apple calls the longest battery life of any Mac. It starts at $1,999 in the US on 6 November; no Egyptian price yet.

Apple has moved its entry 14-inch MacBook Pro to the new M6 chip, announcing it on 27 October alongside the M6 iMac. Orders open on 28 October in 35 countries and regions, and the laptop reaches Apple Stores and authorised resellers on Friday 6 November. Apple has not published an Egyptian price or date.

The M6 in this model has a 12-core CPU and a 12-core GPU, two more cores of each than the M5 it replaces, with Neural Accelerators in every graphics core and a dual 16-core Neural Engine. Apple says graphics are up to 30% faster than the M5 model and on-device AI work up to 25% faster; against an M1 MacBook Pro, which many people are still using, it claims up to 11 times faster graphics. These are Apple's own test figures.

The headline for most buyers is the battery. Apple puts it at up to 24 hours, which it calls the longest of any Mac, and says the laptop runs at the same speed on battery as when plugged in. With a higher-wattage USB-C charger such as Apple's 96W adapter, it charges to 50% in about 30 minutes. Memory starts at 16GB and goes to 32GB, with bandwidth of up to 170GB/s.

The Liquid Retina XDR screen reaches up to 1,600 nits for HDR, with an optional nano-texture finish against glare. The ports are the full set: three Thunderbolt 4, HDMI, an SDXC card slot, MagSafe 3 and a headphone jack, plus Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 and support for two external displays. It comes in space black and silver; Apple says the black finish now picks up fewer fingerprints. The 12MP Center Stage camera, three microphones and six speakers carry over, and it runs macOS 27.

In the US it starts at $1,999. On the morning of 28 October, Apple's Egypt website still listed the 14-inch MacBook Pro with M5 and showed no price in pounds; Egyptian prices come from the authorised resellers once stock arrives. If you were about to buy the M5 model, it is worth asking the shop when the M6 is due and whether the M5 price drops, and checking which chip a "new" box says before you pay. For a long workday or travel away from a socket, the battery change is the reason to wait.
