How to report a bakery that overcharges for tourist bread or fino
Supply Ministry rules cap the price of free tourist bread and fino by weight. Here are the set prices and the two hotlines that take complaints.
Ministerial Directive No. 5 of 2026 sets a maximum price for free tourist bread and fino by weight, and the Supply Ministry says it takes legal action against bakeries that charge more, sell short weight or hide their prices. If your bakery charges more, here is what to do.
Know the set prices
tourist bread is EGP 2 for an 80 g loaf, EGP 1.5 for 60 g and EGP 1 for 40 g. Fino is EGP 2 for 50 g, EGP 1.5 for 40 g and EGP 1 for 30 g.
Look for the price list
every bakery must show the weights and prices clearly where customers can see them. Not showing them is a breach on its own.
Note what is wrong
a higher price, a loaf that is lighter than its price, or no price list. Write down the bakery's name, address, the date and what you paid.
Call 16528
the Cabinet's unified government complaints system takes reports on tourist bread and fino prices and weights.
Or call 19588
the Consumer Protection Agency hotline takes the same complaints.
Prices can change, so check the bakery's notice and the ministry's latest announcement before you report.
