Egypt and South Korea sign 12 agreements, study hydrogen tram for New Capital
During President El-Sisi's state visit to Seoul, the two countries raised ties to a strategic partnership and signed 12 agreements, including a memorandum on 44 hydrogen-powered trams.
Egypt and South Korea agreed on Thursday to raise their relations to a strategic partnership, during President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi's state visit to Seoul and his talks with President Lee Jae Myung. The two sides signed 12 agreements and memoranda of understanding, Egyptian outlets and Yonhap reported.
One of them concerns transport in Greater Cairo. Egypt's National Authority for Tunnels and Hyundai Rotem signed a memorandum to study a project for 44 hydrogen-powered tram trainsets for the New Administrative Capital. The two will look at feasibility and at possible cooperation in construction, railway systems, operation and maintenance before any final decision. No cost, route or timeline has been announced.
The two countries also agreed to start negotiations on a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, and named 2027 a year of cultural exchange, with more scholarships, youth exchanges and Korean-language teaching in Egypt.
In Seoul the president met representatives of 23 Korean companies and renewed Egypt's proposal for a Korean industrial zone in the Suez Canal Economic Zone.
