BAIC X55e range-extender SUV goes on sale in Egypt at 1.225 million pounds
Alkan Auto has launched the BAIC X55e in Egypt in one trim priced at 1,225,000 pounds. A larger X7e will follow, with no price yet.
Alkan Auto, the local agent for the Chinese brand BAIC, has launched the X55e in Egypt. The SUV comes in a single trim called Topline at 1,225,000 pounds and is on sale now through Alkan Auto showrooms and its dealer network.
The X55e is a range-extended electric car. An electric motor rated at 160 kW, about 217 hp, with 310 Nm of torque drives the wheels at all times. A 1.5 litre petrol engine works only as a generator to charge the battery, so the car is refuelled at a petrol station and does not need to be plugged in. The company quotes fuel use of 5.13 litres per 100 km and a total range of more than 1,000 km.
It is 4,620 mm long, with 10.25 inch and 12.3 inch screens, Apple CarPlay, a sunroof and keyless entry and start, according to the company's figures.
BAIC also showed the larger X7e, 4,745 mm long with the same 217 hp system, as part of a new X-Line range. Its Egyptian price and on-sale date have not been announced. The brand says it has sold more than 10,000 cars in Egypt since arriving in 2024.
