Abyusif's new single Lesa leans further into rock, over a trap beat
Egyptian rapper Abyusif has released Lesa, a single that starts on a lone guitar loop and drops into trap, his second rock-leaning track in a row.
Abyusif, one of the names that shaped Egyptian rap, has put out a new single called Lesa, which means "still" or "not yet". It is the second track in a row in which he moves towards rock, after Ma Betheseesh at the start of October.
Lesa opens on a single guitar loop, played by Abyusif himself, and holds it for close to a minute before a heavy trap beat breaks in at 0:51. The production is by Ali Zain, with mixing and mastering by Muhammad El Alfy. CairoScene, which reported the release on 29 October, describes it as a continuation of his recent turn towards a more melodic, guitar-driven sound, carrying on the dark, melancholic mood of his earlier track Bahes Eni Belil.
For listeners who know Abyusif from the hard, wordy rap of his earlier albums, the change is a real one. Ma Betheseesh, released at the start of the month, was the first sign of it, and Lesa makes it a direction rather than a one-off. No album has been announced around the two songs, and Lesa is being released as a single on its own.
The track is out now on the main streaming services where Abyusif releases his music. No live date for the new songs has been announced in Cairo yet; when he plays, his shows usually sell through the city's main ticket sellers, so it is worth following his official pages if you want to hear the new rock-leaning material on stage.
