Turathna crafts fair opens in New Cairo today, free entry until 24 October
Egypt's yearly handicrafts fair runs at the Egypt International Exhibition Center from 17 to 24 October, 11am to 11pm, with free entry.
Turathna, the yearly showcase of Egyptian handicrafts, opens on Saturday 17 October at the Egypt International Exhibition Center in New Cairo and runs for a week until Saturday 24 October, EnterpriseAM reported. It is open every day from 11am to 11pm and entry is free.
Makers from across Egypt sell carpets and kilims, ceramics and pottery, wood, brass and leather work, silver, khayamiya tent-cloth appliqué and food.
Go on a weekday afternoon if you want to talk to the makers without the weekend crowds, and take cash as well as a card, since small stalls do not always take cards. The centre is on the Ring Road side of New Cairo, so plan for parking or a ride-hailing drop-off at the main gate.
