The Longines Global Champions Tour holds its first ever Egyptian round at the Pyramids this Thursday to Saturday, with EUR 1.75 million in prize money and Egypt's Nayel Nassar and Sameh El Dahan in the field.
The Longines Global Champions Tour, the richest series in show jumping, comes to Egypt for the first time this week. Its Cairo round runs from Thursday 22 to Saturday 24 October in front of the Pyramids of Giza, the organisers said.
It is a CSI5* event, the sport's top level, with fences up to 1.60 metres and EUR 1.75 million in prize money over the three days. The riders named so far include Britain's Ben Maher, Germany's Christian Kukuk and Marcus Ehning, Ireland's Cian O'Connor, France's Simon Delestre, Belgium's Pieter Devos and Austria's Max Kühner. Egypt is represented by Nayel Nassar, who rides for the Cairo Pharaohs team in the Global Champions League, and Sameh El Dahan.
Cairo is the last stop before the tour's finals in Rabat from 30 October to 1 November. The event is run with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Egyptian Military Academy and the Egyptian Equestrian Federation, and is part of the Qatar, Egypt and Greece 2027 Year of Culture.
The organisers have not yet published ticket prices, daily start times or how the public can attend. If you want to go, watch the tour's website and the Egyptian Equestrian Federation's pages this week, and expect extra traffic around the Pyramids area from Thursday to Saturday.
