First secondary students without a tablet will sit all exams on paper
The Education Ministry says any grade 10 student, general or technical, who has not received a tablet will take every exam on paper, and no one will lose out.
The Ministry of Education and Technical Education says any first-year secondary student, in general or technical schools, who has not received a tablet will take all of their exams on paper. That covers the monthly tests and the end-of-term exams in both terms. "No student will be harmed by the exam method," the ministry said.
Students who do have a tablet take their exams electronically. If a tablet fails during an exam, the student is either marked on paper or sits a paper version of the same exam at the same time.
The ministry also listed four groups of first secondary students who will not receive tablets this school year: students at private schools, students studying from home, "services" students and students at workers' technical schools.
If your child is in grade 10 and has no tablet yet, there is nothing to apply for to sit exams: the school will give them paper exams on the same timetable as everyone else. If they do have one and it breaks mid-exam, they should tell the invigilator at once so a paper copy can be given. The ministry has not given a date for the next round of tablet handovers.
